Havana Gold's tally of winners hits 14Havana Gold took his individual winners' tally to 14 when Gold Stone won the Nigel's 60th Birthday EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes over five furlongs at Beverley on Thursday afternoon.
Gold Stone had made a very encouraging debut when second to the Qatar Racing-owned Special Purpose over the same C&D three weeks earlier, and she duly built on that performance when beating newcomer Debawtry by a length and a quarter, with the pair clear.
Gold Stone's win gave owner Jaber Abdullah, trainer Kevin Ryan and jockey Tom Eaves a quick-fire double on the card after fellow two-year-old Elnadim Star had taken the opener, and it would be no surprise if connections had Stakes-race aspirations for her. Special Purpose is set to run in the Gr. 2 Sky Bet Lowther Stakes at York next Thursday.
Gold Stone was bred by the Cumani's Fittocks Stud, with her dam Slatey Hen having been bought carrying the filly for 90,000 guineas at Tattersalls December Sale in 2014. The three-time winning sprinter Slatey Hen is by Acclamation and a half-sister to the Gr. 3 Norfolk Stakes winner Masta Plasta, as well as to the dam of Gr. 1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Tiggy Wiggy. Her Pivotal yearling colt is catalogued to sell at the upcoming Goffs UK Premier Sale.
Havana Gold was also represented on Thursday by his second most expensive yearling of 2016 - after Sallab, who is already a winner - in Tanseeq, who was purchased by Shadwell for £160,000 at the Premier Sale. Tanseeq showed plenty of ability on this debut in a seven-furlong novice at Yarmouth, faring best of the rest behind impressive winner Il Primo Sole, and is another Havana Gold winner in waiting. Tanseeq is out of the Alhaarth mare Roslea Lady, a half-sister to Gr. 2 Gimcrack Stakes winner Conquest, and was bred by Shortgrove Manor Stud.
