Billy Primmer

Billy is currently with Zoustar as he does his quarantine in Newmarket before heading back to Widden Stud in Australia for another Southern Hemisphere breeding season.

Growing up…
I grew up in Warrnambool, Australia, which is a racing town. My dad was a trainer and brother a jockey. I worked for a racing yard for 5 years and spent a year on a stud in New Zealand. I then started doing stallions at Godolphin in Australia and worked with Australian champion sire Written Tycoon at Yulong.

Tweenhills Life…
I became mates with Noah [McCain-Mitchell, another Stallion Groom at Tweenhills] through the sales in Australasia and started at Tweenhills in mid-February. It’s going well; it’s great to be working with smart European-bred mares and learning about their pedigrees. It’s also amazing to be working with Zoustar as obviously he’s a big name back home. The season has gone really well thanks to a good team performance; busy but enjoyable and I’ve learnt plenty.

Well, obviously, going racing! I’ve already been to the Cheltenham Festival, Newmarket for the Guineasn Newbury and Royal Ascot. A few lads on the yard like a bet so we enjoy keeping on top of the form, including back in Australia. The 2000 Guineas was an amazing race to watch with the two Godolphin horses going head to head, on opposite sides of the track before and meeting in the final furlong. I also enjoy the NBA and the AFL back home – I support the Brisbane Lions and we’re second in the league so chipping away not too bad. Believe it or not I enjoy English food, especially the breakfasts – your bacon is better than what I’m used to!
