Two Gr.1 winners in a week bred by Tweenhills
Tweenhills enjoyed a fantastic 7 days when New Century and Buckaroo won Gr.1s in the United States and Australia, both conceived on our stud in Gloucestershire. New Century was also a first top-level winner for our extremely exciting first-season sire Kameko.
New Century was the first to land the big win when coming from to first in the Gr.1 Summer Stakes over 1m at Woodbine on Saturday 14 September. The win was his second Stakes success of a short career so far and he now heads to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, for which he’s among the favourites. He’s trained by Andrew Balding and ridden by Oisin Murphy.
New Century was conceived, born, raised and grazed at Tweenhills – by our dual Gr.1 winner Kameko. New Century was bred by The Potent Embrace Partnership out of Street Cry mare Potent Embrace. She didn’t run as a 2yo herself but ran 15 times as a 3yo for Mark Johnston, including wins over 1m and 10f.
Buckaroo won three times during his early career in Ireland, including two Listed races, and he’s taken his career to the next level since moving to Australia at the start of this year. Now trained by Chris Waller and gelded during the summer, he has returned to win the Gr.2 Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick and Gr.1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield.
Buckaroo was dominant in the Underwood on Saturday 21 September under international superstar Joao Moreira and now has the options of the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup.
He was also born, raised and grazed at Tweenhills, bred by The Roheryn Partnership. Buckaroo is out of Listed-winner Galileo mare Roheryn, also the dam of Gr.3 winner and potential Melbourne Cup runner Middle Earth; Kihavah who also won on Saturday; and female winners Thousand Oaks and Siege of Troy, the latter a very eye-catching 3rd in a Listed race in the United States recently.
Other big winners born, raised and grazed at Tweenhills in 2024 include:
- Running Lion - won the Gr.2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot
- Queen of The Pride - won the Gr.2 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock
- Queen of The Pride - won the Gr.3 Lester Piggott Fillies' Stakes (Pinnacle) at Haydock
- Middle Earth - won the Listed Aston Park Stakes at Newbury
