Deadly result for Roaring Lion in Japan

Pearl Bloodstock’s 3yo filly Deadly was an impressive winner at Niigata on Sunday, both setting a new course record and becoming a first winner in Japan for our late stallion Roaring Lion.

Deadly broke her maiden at the fourth time of asking in a 2000m race at Niigata by a comfortable two lengths under Yuga Kawada, still breaking the track record despite not being asked by maximum effort.

She is trained by Mitsu Nakauchida and runs in the colours of Sheikh Fahad’s Pearl Bloodstock.

Deadly was raised and grazed at Tweenhills in Gloucestershire.

Her dam, the placed New Approach mare Heartless, is closely related to Champion 3yo old colt in Ireland in 2011, Treasure Beach (by New Approach’s sire Galileo).

Heartless is also a half-sister to Stakes winners Elidor and Honour Bound, the latter dam of this year’s winner La Isla Mujeres, as well as Count Octave who was second to Stradivarius in both the Gr.2 Queen’s Vase in 2017 and Gr.2 Yorkshire Cup in 2018.

11yo Heartless remains at Tweenhills and is the dam of a Kameko colt foal, which makes him closely related to Deadly.
