Dual Gr.2 winner Lucky Kristale returns to Tweenhills

When David Redvers struck the winning bid on Lucky Kristale at the recent Tattersalls December Mare Sale it was a poignant moment for she has Tweenhills written through her like Blackpool through a stick of rock.

As her name implies, Lucky Kristale is by Lucky Story, who stood all his stallion career at Tweenhills from 2005-2010. Lucky Story was the sire of Gr.1-winning sprinter and sire Art Connoisseur, multiple Group winners Annecdote and Arpinati, Stakes-winning 2yo Lucky Like and, of course, Lucky Kristale during a career cut tragically short when he passed in his sleep.

One of the mares to visit Lucky Story in 2012 was Pikaboo, who had been bought at the Tattersalls October Horses In Training Sale in 2006 by David Redvers for 20,000gns. At that point she had finished sixth and eighth in maidens for John Gosden. She didn’t do much better in three subsequent starts carrying the Tweenhills brown and light blue colours for Stuart Williams. She would do significantly more as a broodmare.

Her first foal was by Tweenhills’ sire Ishiguru and, named Mon Visage, she won a 2yo maiden. Her second foal was by Tweenhills’ sire Sleeping Indian and, named I see You, she won twice. Her third foal was by Lucky Story and she became Lucky Kristale, bred by Lilac Bloodstock & Redmyre Bloodstock (David and Laura Redvers, and Richard Pegum).

Unfortunately – for Tweenhills anyway – Pikaboo was sold back to her breeders, Paul and Adrienne Gay Venner of Petches Farm for 50,000gns at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale in 2012. Within six months, Lucky Kristale had made her 2yo winning debut at Newmarket for George Margarson.

Lucky Kristale won four of her six starts as a juvenile, including the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and Lowther Stakes, both Gr.2s. She also won another Stakes sprint as a 4yo.

Pikaboo went onto produce three more Group-winning fillies, all by Galileo and racing for Ballydoyle. Flattering and Peach Tree won Gr.3s but the best was saved until last as Love won five Gr.1s from 2019-2021, including the 1000 Guineas, Oaks and Princess of Wales’s Stakes. Pikaboo is by influential broodmare sire Pivotal.

So, it’s extremely special to have Lucky Kristale back at Tweenhills, David having paid 160,000gns to purchase her from the Juddmonte draft last week. Her three runners so far include the Gr.2-placed middle-distance performer Bravais (by Frankel) and we cannot wait to welcome her foal by Charyn in the new year.

Lucky Kristale’s Galileo daughter At No Time sold as a 3yo for 200,000gns to Haras d’Etreham in 2024, her Showcasing daughter sold for €85,000 to Guineas-winning owner Bailey’s Horse Feeds this September, and she has a filly foal by Havana Grey. It’s very exciting times for both Lucky Kristale and Tweenhills!
