Havana Gold colt makes impressive winning debut
A colt by Tweenhills sire Havana Gold, who lost his life in February 2023, made a sparkling winning debut on Wednesday evening. Cracking Gold looked a useful prospect as he beat at odds-on Godolphin newcomer in a 7f maiden at Kempton.
Cracking Gold had been conceived at Tweenhills when the unraced Captain Gerrard mare Meaning of Time visited Havana Gold in 2020. The flashy chesnut was born the following April and changed hands for 19,000gns as a foal, sold by his breeder Whitwell Bloodstock to Michal Tallon.
Cracking Gold made substantially more as a yearling when bought from Tallon by Kevin Ross Bloodstock for €95,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearlings Sale.
The colt was bought on behalf of owners Paul and Clare Rooney and went into training with Clive Cox. Cracking Gold is out of a half-sister to smart miler Crack On Crack On, also by Havana Gold and trained by Cox for the Rooneys until his sale to Hong Kong in 2018.
In the hands of John Fahy, Cracking Gold travelled powerfully close up before winning at Kempton by a cosy half-length from Native Approach. His rider did not need to resort to the whip and Cracking Gold looks destined for much better things.
Tweenhills had its final foal by Havana Gold born recently: a 61.4kg filly out of Stakes-placed Showcasing mare Out of The Flames, dam of winners by Zoustar, Stars On Fire and Out of The Stars. Out of The Flames has a 2yo filly by Kameko who was bought by Blandford Bloodstock at the Tattersalls Book 1 Sale.
