HOT STREAK: THE RACEHORSE
At this time in 2014, Hot Streak was the best sprinter of his generation on Timeform ratings and being hailed by the respected organisation as "one to look forward to in the top sprints".
Hot Streak had looked a speedball since appearing at Newmarket's Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-Up Sale, where he was bought by David Redvers for 42,000 guineas. He was sent to Kevin Ryan.
Hot Streak started at 7/4 on debut and duly looked smart in victory. Hot Streak doubled his tally, again at York though dropped to five furlongs, in the Listed Julia Graves Roses Stakes in late-August. He beat future dual Gr. 1 winner Mecca's Angel by a length and a half.
After finishing third in the Gr. 2 Mill Reef Stakes, Hot Streak produced a truly breath-taking performance when dropped back to five furlongs in the Gr. 3 BMW Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot in October 2013.
Back under Jamie Spencer, he proved in a league of his own, winning by five lengths. Timeform described him as "producing one of the very best performances by a 2-y-o this year", with his winning time of 1m 0.24secs on good to soft ground most impressive.
Hot Streak turned out again for the Gr. 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket seven days later, where he produced another big effort in beating all bar his stablemate Astaire back over six furlongs. Gr. 1 winner Sudirman was three lengths back in fifth.
Hot Streak was certainly not just a two-year-old. He split Gr. 1 performers Sole Power and Kingsgate Native in the Gr. 3 Palace House Stakes on his return at three, and reversed the form with Kingsgate Native when winning the Gr. 2 betfred.com Temple Stakes at Haydock later that May. Hot Streak showed even better form when third in the Gr. 1 King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Hot Streak cemented his status as a Gr. 1 sprinter when beaten just over a length into fifth behind his old foe Sole Power in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York later that summer, and he retired to Tweenhills Farm & Stud at the end of the 2015 season.
