Roaring Lion colt Embesto shares spoils in Gr.3
Very smart Roaring Lion colt Embesto continued his rapid rise through the ranks when dead-heating in the Gr.3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury on Thursday.
Embesto had looked headed for the top when winning his first two start and improved again when second to Nostrum in the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket’s July Meeting.
The Roger Varian-trained Embesto upped his game once again when dead-heating with Listed winner Mighty Ulysses in the Gr.3 Sovereign Stakes, with five-time Gr.3 winner Regal Reality in third.
Embesto showed the trademark ‘Roaring Lion’ attitude and head carriage when drawing level with Mighty Ulysses on the line under his regular rider David Egan. Embesto runs in the famous colours of Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum.
Embesto was bred by Deerfield Farm out of the Iffraaj mare Dibajj, a four-time winning sprinter whose victories included the Gr.3 Prix du Petit Couvert.
3yo Embesto holds entries in the Gr.1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) and QIPCO Champion Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot on October 21.
Roaring Lion's daughter Running Lion returned with an excellent second in the Listed Upavon Stakes, also at Salisbury on Wednesday.
We cannot wait to see the first yearlings by Roaring Lion's paternal half-brother Kameko (also by Kitten's Joy) sell at this yearling sales in the coming months.
