Royal Ascot is where dreams are made

It was almost a dream Royal Ascot result for Tweenhills as the stud's two stallions with runners, Havana Gold and Harbour Watch, were the sires of second-placed finishers in two of the Gr. 2 races for 2-year-olds at the meeting.

Havana Gold fielded no fewer than five first-crop runners at Royal Ascot 2017, an achievement in itself, and he went agonisingly close to siring the winner of arguably the most prestigious juvenile race at the whole meeting when Headway (pictured right) was beaten by just a head in the Gr. 2 Coventry Stakes on Tuesday.

Given both his breeding and the way he's shaped in his races so far, Headway is going to relish the step up to seven furlongs and connections are entitled to already be thinking about the Gr. 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on October 14. If - or should we say when - Headway wins a stakes race he'll join Havana Grey as a stakes winner produced by Havana Gold. Havana Grey wasn't at his best when down the field in the Norfolk Stakes on Thursday, but he did travel well for a long way and should bounce back quickly.

While Havana Gold couldn't quite sire a winner at Royal Ascot 2017, his sire Teofilo was one the mark courtesy of his granite-tough son Permian who bounced back from a low-key effort in the Derby to win the Gr.2 King Edward VII Stakes.

Harbour Watch matched his studmate Havana Gold as his strapping son Santry finished a half-length second in the aforementioned Gr. 2 Norfolk Stakes. Santry actually 'won' his race on the stands' side only to find himself slightly down on Sioux Nation who raced on the far side. Santry promises to stay another furlong and, even at this early stage, he could look a contender for the Gr. 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket on September 30.

Harbour Watch is also the sire of Queen of Time, who earnt black type herself at Royal Ascot when fourth of 24 in the Listed Sandringham Handicap on Wednesday. She looked unlucky not to finish closer too, having had to wait for gap approaching the final furlong, and she's capable of even better.
