Stakes winners for Tweenhills mares
It was a good weekend for daughters of Tweenhills mares as they won Stakes races on opposite sides of the world…
Tweenhills mare Ripples Maid spent time in Japan and her 4-year-old daughter by Deep Impact, Mikki Charm (pictured, yellow cap), won the Gr.2 Hanshinhimba Stakes over 1600m at Hanshin on Saturday. Mikki Charm was always front rank and, after showing a good attitude to get to the front, ultimately won by a cosy half-length.
Ripples Maid is currently back at Tweenhills with a Havana Gold colt foal at foot, and she will visit Zoustar. Her 2-year-old colt by Lord Kanaloa is owned by Qatar Racing and in training with William Haggas.
Another Tweenhills mare on the Stakes scoresheet was Molly Malone whose 5-year-old daughter Morgan Le Faye (by Shamardal) won the Listed Prix Zarkava – Fonds European de l’Evage over 2100m at Longchamp on Sunday.
Despite having finished a close third in last year’s Prix du Cadran – the same race Molly Malone won in 2012 – Morgan Le Faye had no issue with the significant drop in trip (and the widest stall) when winning the Prix Zarkava, breezing from near last to first to win hard held.
Morgan Le Faye looks an improved model this year and it would fantastic if she could win a notable Group race.
