Tattersalls buy Promise of Success wins Gr.2

Promise of Success, purchased as a four-race maiden for just 27,000gns by David Redvers Bloodstock / Rosemont Stud at the 2020 Tattersalls December Mares Sale, won a Gr.2 in Australia today.

When Tweenhills’ Hannah Wall waited until the very lot on the evening of Tuesday 1 December 2020 she could only hope she was buying a future Stakes winner.

The filly in question, Lot 1411 Promise of Success, had run four times without winning for Saeed bin Suroor at two and three before being purchased by Durcan Bloodstock / Chris Wall for 30,000gns at the previous year’s December Mares Sale.

Hannah – who is trainer Chris Wall’s niece – signed the docket on behalf of David Redvers Bloodstock / Rosemont Stud and the then four-year-old filly left a few months later for Australia.

Promise of Success created an immediate impression in Australia in winning a barrier trial and then three of her first six races at up to 1400m.

After finishing runner-up in the Gr.3 Triscay Stakes and Gr.2 Guy Walter Proven Thoroughbred Stakes and fourth in the Gr.1 Coolmore Classic, Promise of Success gained her much deserved first Stakes win in the Gr.2 Canadian Club Emancipation Stakes over 1500m at Newcastle.

Promise of Success is trained by John O’Shea and was ridden for the second time by Kerrin McEvoy, who told press after the race:

“We were quietly confident she could run well and she did a good job, because I had to scoot out into the race to get to them and then it was a sprint over the last sort of furlong-and-a-half.

“It was a good, tough effort. She’s a lovely mare, so it’s nice to get a bit of black-type for her here.”
