Getting To Know You - Tom King

Right, Tom, we all know you're a Stallion Groom here, but what we really want to know is what makes you tick. So here we go, 10 quick-fire questions, and we can only take your first answer...

Where’s the most unusual place you’ve been?

The summit of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It was very cold, quite windy, exhausting and I was happy to get off the mountain actually!

And the most unusual thing you’ve eaten?

Crocodile, emu and kangaroo on a hot stove in Australia. It was in the outback while I was working on a cattle ranch and was all delicious; I highly recommend crocodile.

What are the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made?

The best purchase, I suppose, was probably my Audi. The worst would be any bad tips I’ve backed.

Which song have you got on repeat?

Harmony Hall by Vampire Weekend. And no, I’m not singing it.

What program do you turn off if it’s on?

Any of the soaps; Eastenders, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks etc.

How does your ideal day off look?

Big fry-up in the morning, round of golf and racing in the afternoon. I enjoy going back home to Newmarket, especially the July Course.

If magic was real, what would you do first?

Learn to fly – it’d save a lot on travel costs.

What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it?

When Ivo says he can beat me at skittles.

What would a world populated by clones of you be like?

Very relaxed, a little bit opinionated and every one of me would always be eating.

Finally, give us a 2-year-old to follow…

We have been hearing good words about the homebred Muhaarar - Kiyoshi colt with Andrew Balding. Both his parents were Royal Ascot winners so I'm looking forward to seeing him on the track.
