70% strike rate for Lightning Spear

Lightning Spear, winner of the Gr.1 Sussex Stakes and Champion Older Miler has got off to a flying start with his debut crop of 2yos.

He now boasts a strike rate of over 70% winners to runners from his first crop of runners this year with winners in GB, Ireland and France- an impressive statistic considering Lightning Spear himself only ran once as a 2yo.

Most recently Brighter London was an impressive maiden winner at Dundalk for trainer Jack Davison. The 2yo is out of the Oasis Dream mare Dream Day and was pinhooked by Glending Stables for €16,000 as a yearling before re-selling for €62,000 six months later.

Interestingly 2 of his 5 winners to date are out of Danehill Dancer line mares. Greased Lightning who was an impressive debut winner in June and Inspirited who won his maiden by 4 1/4 lengths and now heads to the Gr.2 Gran Criterium on Oct 23.

Lightning Spear has 5 yearlings selling this week at Tattersalls with his yearlings last year averaging nearly 4 times his covering fee.
