Another Havana Gold 2yo winner...born at Tweenhills

The weekend saw another two-year-old winner by Havana Gold as Pinar Del Rio won the six-furlong colts and geldings maiden on Irish 2000 Guineas day at the Curragh. Pinar Del Rio was born and raised at Tweenhills.

Pinar Del Rio is out of dual Listed-winning sprinter Ripples Maid who has also produced Japanese Gr.2 winner Mikki Charm. Ripples Maid resides at Tweenhills and is currently in foal to Kameko.

Pinar Del Rio was bought at the Tattersalls October Book 2 Yearling Sales for 50,000gns by his trainer and owner Paddy Twomey.

Pinar Del Rio had shown lots of ability when beaten less than a length at Naas on debut earlier this month and made all on soft ground on Saturday, showing the typical Havana Gold attitude. He could easily now have a crack at the Gr.2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Paddy Twomey told press after the win:

"He's showing a lot of class and he has to step up now; whether that's running back here or going to the UK, I don't know. He's done it well and I think he'll have no bother getting further in time. I was very happy he did that as well as he did."

Havana Gold is currently joint-second in the list of Leading Sires of 2yos in Europe with 7 individual two-year-old winners of 8 races. He's had 16 individual juvenile runners which is 6 less than Cotai Glory who has also had 7 individual two-year-old winners.
