Brocklesby Gold for Havana

Tweenhills stallion Havana Gold sired the first two-year-old winner of the year in Britain as Chipotle ran away with the famous curtain-raiser, the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster’s Lincoln meeting.

Chipotle was another excellent advertisement for Havana Gold as he tanked through the 9-runner Brocklesby Conditions Stakes in mid-field before leading over a furlong out and crossing the line with two and a quarter lengths to spare from the well-touted Wonderful World, whose trainer won the race in 2018.

Chipotle – who looks open to plenty of improvement – was ridden by Charlie Bishop for trainer Eve Johnson Houghton and owners The Woodway 20. He holds entries in both the Weatherbys Super Sprint in July and the Tattersalls October Auction Stakes.

He looks a very shrewd buy by his trainer in partnership with Highflyer Bloodstock who paid just 10,000gns for him at the Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale.

Chipotle was bred by Theakston Stud out of eight-year-old mare Lightsome, who was bought at the Tattersalls February Sale in 2017 for just 8,000gns. Lightsome was bred by Qatar Bloodstock Ltd at Tweenhills and is by our old friend Makfi, who is also the sire of Make Believe, sire of Saturday’s Dubai Sheema Classic winner Mishriff.

Havana Gold has 143 other two-year-olds still to run for him this year. There has never been a better time to use him so, to discuss your mare, call our Nominations Team now on +44 (0)1452 700177.
