Dam of Tweenhills-bred Gr.2 winner in foal to Lightning Spear

Tweenhills homebred Military Law won the Gr.2 Al Maktoum Challenge R1 at Meydan on Thursday, providing a notable success for his dam, Marine Bleue, who is carrying to Lightning Spear and will revisit the sire.

A first Group winner of 2021 for sire Dubawi, six-year-old Military Law was always travelling well on the rail under Antonio Fresu and put the race to bed at the furlong pole, winning by a length and a quarter from Thegreatcollection.

A Listed winner over a mile and a quarter at the same track in December 2019, Military Law now has the Gr.1 Dubai World Cup on his agenda for trainer Musabbeh Al Mheiri.

Military Law won three of his six starts for John Gosden and Qatar Racing, including a handicap off 90 at Newcastle in June 2019. He was sold at the Tattersalls July Sale the following month when bought by current owner Nasir Askar for 110,000gns.

Military Law is out of Gr.3 winner Marine Bleue (by Desert Prince), who was bought by David Redvers for 100,000gns at the 2010 Tattersalls December Mare Sale. She is also the dam of Listed winner Marina Piccola (dam of Gr.1 winner French King), Group-placed Wednaan and Listed-winning hurdler Marine One.

19-year-old Marine Bleue is currently carrying a Lightning Spear foal and will return to the sire this spring.

Marine Bleue’s winning 8-year-old daughter Adalene (by Makfi) is also at Tweenhills and has produced a winner by Havana Gold in Crohanne, who scored as a two-year-old in France in 2020. Adalene is also carrying to Lightning Spear and will visit Kameko.

Marine Bleue’s 5-year-old New King was a winner in Britain and now races in Australia; her 3-year-old daughter Swoon (both by Frankel) is unraced for Sir Michael Stoute; and she has a 2-year-old filly by Siyouni.
