First 2yo hits the mark for Havana Gold
Havana Gold was off the mark today with his first two-year-old winner when Havana Star landed the Mayday Raceday Novice Median Auction Stakes at Beverley on his racecourse debut.
Despite running very green and being left at the start, he made good headway over 1f out and kept on strongly to win by a neck. He'll be a lot better for the experience and looks to be yet another exciting horse to follow this season for first-season Tweenhills based sire Havana Gold.
Congratulations to trainer Kevin Ryan, owner Hambleton Racing Ltd XXXVIII and breeder Mubarak Al Naemi.
A January foal and first foal of the very useful 5f 2yo debut winner Nagham (Camacho), Havana Star was purchased as a yearling by Hillen & Ryan for €37,000 from Goffs.
Trainer Kevin Ryan said: "I trained Havana Star's dam, who was a lovely little filly. He will come on loads for that, he was green as anything in the parade ring and took a while to get the hang of it on the course."
This success for Havana Gold follows on from two other notable debut runners by the sire in Havana Grey and Headway who both finished second recently and look to be exciting prospects too.
