Go Greased Lightning! First winner for Spear

Greased Lightning became a first winner for Tweenhills stallion Lightning Spear when making a winning debut over 7f at Chepstow on Tuesday evening.

Lightning Spear struck with just his fourth runner – which now means that all three of Tweenhills’ first-season sires, Spear, Zoustar (in Northern Hemisphere) and the late Roaring Lion have produced winners before the end of June.

Greased Lightning travelled notably well under Charlie Bishop and came with a smooth run to beat the experienced Evolicatt with something in hand.

Carrying predominantly claret colours – of Anthony Pye-Jeary and David Ian – the chestnut evoked memories of his sire, who made a winning 2-year-old debut himself before going on to much better things.

Trainer Eve Johnson Houghton has done very well with the progeny of Tweenhills stallions as she trained Havana Gold’s 2021 Royal Ascot-winning 2-year-old Chipotle.

Greased Lightning was bred by Whatton Manor Stud & Robert Cornelius out of Danehill Dancer mare How High The Sky.

He was sold by Whatton Manor at the Tattersalls Book 3 Yearling Sale for 26,000gns to Highflyer Bloodstock / Eve Johnson Houghton.

Congrulations to everyone involved with Greased Lightning - he looks exciting!
