Head start at Royal Ascot for Havana Gold

Havana Gold's two-year-old colt Headway went agonisingly close to winning the Gr.2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot today. Travelling well throughout and running on strongly inside the final furlong, he was just beaten a head in the last strides to finish an admirable second.

Trained by William Haggas for The Royal Ascot Racing Club, he is certainly one to keep an eye on through the season.

William Haggas said: "Headway ran a fantastic race and it was a great thrill. He had a hard race and I am not sure what we will do next."

On Headway's last start he won the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes at Chester by a comfortable three lengths (pictured).

Bred by Whatton Manor, Global Equine and L Stratton, Headway is out of On Her Way (Medicean), a half-sister to Chater Way (aka On Our Way), a multiple Stakes performer including being placed in the Royal Lodge Stakes, Cathay Pacific Jockey Club Mile, Sha Tin Trophy, Stonehenge Stakes and Hong Kong Classic Mile.

It was a great start to the Royal meeting for Havana Gold, who will be represented in the Gr. 2 Queen Mary on Wednesday by Chica La Habana and Treasuring. Plus Listed National Stakes winner Havana Grey is set to run in the Gr. 2 Norfolk Stakes on Thursday.
