Impressive 2yo filly winner for Lightning Spear

Lightning Spear’s juvenile daughter Carthweel had a real spring in her step when an all-the-way winner at Kempton on Wednesday evening for trainer Dylan Cunha and jockey Rhys Clutterbuck.

After being sent off 4/1 over 5f for her debut – and showing ability in 3rd – 7/2 shot Carthwheel put her experience to good use as she pinged the stalls from the widest of 13 stalls and never looked like getting beaten at the Sunbury course.

Carthwheel showed much improved form to get off the mark stepped up to 7f on her all-weather debut, showing bright speed and leading all the way.

She kept on well to score by 2¼ lengths and looks open to further improvement.

Carthwheel already looks an absolute bargain having been bought for just 9,000gns by her owners Quest Thoroughbreds / Hopkins Bloodstock.

Carthwheel was bred by Willie Carson’s Minster Stud, by Lightning Spear out of Rip Van Winkle mare Deep Blue Sea. The mare has now produced 4 winners from 4 runners and Carthweel could well be the best of them.
