Mares in foal to Havana Gold make headlines at Tattersalls

Mares in foal to Havana Gold sold for 675,000gns, 170,000gns and 95,000gns on the first day and a half of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale in Newmarket.

Three-time winner Aflame, out of Gr.1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Magical Romance, was the second highest-priced lot on Day 1 of the Mares Sale when knocked down to James Wigan’s London Thoroughbred Services for 675,000gns. Aflame came to Tweenhills in 2019 and was covered by Havana Gold.

Aflame is a half-sister to Love Magic, dam of this year’s Gr.1 Prix de Diane winner Channel, while their dam Magical Romance is out of Shouk, which makes her closely related to English and Irish Oaks winner Alexandrova.

Aflame was sold as part of the broodmare dispersal owned by the late Lady Rothschild, who also sent Strut to Havana Gold earlier this year. Strut sold as part of the same draft for 95,000gns.

Another mare in foal to Havana Gold to sell was Truly Honoured, by Frankel and part of the Tweenhills draft, who changed hands for 170,000gns. She is a full sister to our own high-class stayer Count Octave, and closely related to dual Gr.1 winner Treasure Beach.

Havana Gold is the sire of Gr.1 winner Havana Grey, as well as five other Stakes winners from his first crop. He is also the sire of very talented sprinter Tabdeed.

Havana Gold will stand the 2020 breeding season for just 10,000gns.
