New Stakes horse for Havana

Tweenhills stallion Havana Gold had his 12th Stakes performer when Hariboux was second in the Listed Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita just before the turn of the new year, unlucky not to win too.

Hariboux won three times as a two-year-old earlier in 2019 when trained by Hugo Palmer in Britain, and he has also won since joining Jeff Mullins in the United States, namely an optional claimer at Del Mar in November.

Hariboux lined up as one of the outsiders for the Listed Eddie Logan over a mile but shaped very well; he was last for most of the way, had to go wide around the final bend and very much conceded first run to winner Encoder. He was only beaten half a length and promises to stay further, in keeping with his pedigree.

Hariboux’s new owners are Red Baron's Barn LLC & Rancho Temescal LLC, who were also very active at the Autumn Horses In Training Sale at Tattersalls, Newmarket.

Hariboux was bred by Lady Gillian Brunton and is the first foal out of Sir Percy mare Royal Warranty, a winner over a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half for Andrew Balding. He was picked up very cheaply at the sales when selling to Philippa Mains for 11,000gns at the Tattersalls Book 3 Sale.

The mare’s 2018 colt by Sixties Icon made 70,000gns at the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale.

Havana Gold, the leading first season sire of 2017 in the UK, will stand the 2020 breeding season at £10,000 (Oct 1st SLF).
