Second 2yo Stakes winner for Havana Gold in 2021

Tweenhills stallion Havana Gold registered his second two-year-old Stakes success of the season on Friday when Fearby was a five-length winner of the Listed Dragon Stakes at Sandown.

Fearby had built upon his debut when winning a maiden over five and a half furlongs at Wetherby and took another big step forward as he blitzed his six rivals in the Listed Dragon over a stiff five furlongs.

Fearby had to race on the outside of the pack, furthest from the far rail, but picked up in stunning fashion under P J McDonald to streak clear of six-length C&D winner Mojomaker and Kaboo, who'd made a highly encouraging debut in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot (also won by a son of Havana Gold in Chipotle).

Fearby's win was a first Stakes success for young trainer Edward Bethell who only had his first runner in Janaury after taking over from his father James.

Fearby now looks an absolute bargain at 21,000gns as a yearling when bought by his trainer and Blandford Bloodstock from the Tattersalls Book 3 Sale. He had been bought from his breeder Ringfort Stud for 13,000gns as a foal by Culworth Grounds Farm and sold by them as a yearling.

Fearby is out of five-time winning One Cool Cat mare Coolminx. She is also the dam of winners Cool Team and Summer Blossom. Congratulations to all involved, including owners Clarendon Throughbred Racing.

Havana Gold also had a new winner on Thursday when filly Goldilocks won a novice at Newbury.
