Spear filly carries famous colours to victory
Lightning Spear filly Avon Light got off the mark in cosy fashion last night for trainers William Muir and Chris Grassick and owners Helena Springfield Ltd, perhaps more well known as her breeders, Meon Valley Stud.
Much like her sire, 4yo Avon Light had been extremely consistent until getting the breakthrough she deserved in an 11f handicap at Kempton.
Lightning Spear now has a strike rate of 75% winners to runners from that first crop.
In the hands of Lewis Edmunds, Avon Light was well positioned close up and stuck her head down to hold off favourite Eleanor Cross.
Timeform describe Avon Light as a “tall, rather unfurnished filly” and she should have more to offer.
Avon Light is closely related to 7f-9.5f winner King of Naples (by another son of Pivotal in Excellent Art) and half-sister to several winners, including useful 10f performers Drochaid nd Swilcan Bridge. Their dam Avon Lady (by Avonbridge) won up to 8.3f and was 4th in Listed company for the same owner as Avon Light.
