Thursday double for Havana Gold

Tweenhills’ 2017 Champion First-Season Sire in Britain, Havana Gold, registered a double at Wolverhampton on Monday courtesy of sons Havana Ooh Na Na and Mawakib.

A full brother to Gr. 1 winner and sire Havana Grey, Havana Ooh Na Na – who takes his name from the chorus line of the hit song “Havana” by Camila Cabello – got off the mark in a seven-furlong handicap and should win more races now he’s up and running.

Both horses were bred by Richard Kent’s Mickley Stud and the late Lady Lonsdale, out of Dark Angel mare Blanc de Chine.

Mawakib made his three-year-old return a winning one when running down his chief market rival in a six-furlong novice.

Trained by Mawakib and ridden by Andrea Atzeni, Mawakib attracted strong market support and showed the good attitude associated with his sire’s progeny to collar Ustath near the line.

Mawakib was bred by Mrs J. E. Laws out of Crafty Prospector mare Keladora.

He is owned by Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum; the same connections will also be represented this season by another son of a Tweenhills sire, namely the two-year-old Hot Streak colt out of Never In purchased for 200,000gns.
