Streets of Gold wins at the Curragh

Unbeaten Havana Gold 2yo lands huge prize

Havana Gold juvenile colt Streets of Gold took his unbeaten record to four races when landing the €147,500 first prize in the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday.

Streets of Gold won at Chepstow on debut before following up under a penalty at Newmarket. He then won a very competitive nursery off 92 at York in mid-August before lining up as the 11/8 favourite in Ireland.

Streets of Gold travelled smoothly in midfield under Charlie Bishop and found plenty for pressure in typical style for one of Havana Gold’s progeny.

After getting past front runner Dandy Alys (runner-up in Gr.3 on previous start) 1.5f out, Streets of Gold was kept up to his work to win by a length from old rival Tostado (a winner since finishing behind Streets of Gold at Newmarket on debut) and Dandy Alys. It was a 1-2-3 for British raiders.

Streets of Gold has now won the equivalent of £184,022 for his owners Jonny Allison and Gary Stevens. He has been expertly handled by his trainer Eve Johnson Houghton who bought him with Highflyer Bloodstock for just £27,000 as a yearling - the same combination that had bought last year's dual Listed-winning Havana Gold 2yo Chipotle for just 10,000gns as a yearling.

Streets of Gold is entered in the Gr.2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury on Saturday and is certainly good enough for Group races (already a beat a subsequent Gr.3 winner for his second success). He was bred by Vimal & Gillian Khosla out of Frankel mare Truly Honoured.
