2 WINS IN 2 DAYS FOR CHARM SPIRIT

First-season sire Charm Spirit sired his first winner on Monday, and he didn't have to wait long for his second as Charming Kid made an impressive debut at York's Dante meeting on Wednesday.

Charming Kid (pictured) took on three previous winners in the Class 3 British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes, as well as World Order who had finished second to subsequent Lily Agnes Stakes winner on his debut. After travelling well held up, Charming Kid swept to the front inside the final furlong to beat World Order by half a length, overcoming greenness. He looked every inch a Royal Ascot prospect.

Winning trainer Richard Fahey said: "Charming Kid is naturally very fast and I'd be thinking of the Gr. 2 Norfolk Stakes as he's quite sharp and you need plenty of boot at Ascot."

Charming Kid did indeed show lots of speed in winning over five furlongs but his pedigree suggests he'll stay further down the line; his half-brother Juniper Pass won a Gr. 2 winner over a mile and three quarters in America. They are out of Coronado's Quest mare Child Bride.

Charming Kid was bred by Biddestone's Stud Ltd and purchased for £105,000 at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale by Matt Coleman for Peter Swann's The Cool Silk Partnership.

Charm Spirit having early winners is no surprise as he was a top-class horse, winning the Prix Jean Prat, Prix du Moulin and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, all Gr. 1 races. However, he was a miler who continued to improve through his three-year-old year, so it's fair to assume his progeny are generally going to progress with time and distance.

Charm Spirit, a son of Invincible Spirit, retired to stud ahead of the 2015 breeding season, standing his first year at Tweenhills. As part of an agreement with the Aga Khan Studs, he has alternated each Northern Hemisphere breeding season since between Tweenhills and Haras de Bonneval. He also shuttles to Windsor Park in New Zealand, where he will stand for $18,000 +GST in 2018.

Charm Spirit, whose yearlings of 2017 sold for up to €500,000, will return to Tweenhills for the 2019 breeding season.
