24 Sep 2022

A first European Gr.1 winner for Zoustar

Lezoo provided International Sire Sensation Zoustar with his first Northern Hemisphere Gr.1 runner and winner, with an impressive win in the Gr.1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket for trainer Ralph Beckett and owners M Chan & A Rosen.

In doing so Zoustar becomes the only European first season sire to sire a Gr.1 winner this year and has now sired Gr.1 winners in 3 continents.

The two-year-old filly was already victorious in the Gr.3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot and Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket this season.

Lezoo swept through under William Buick to beat Meditate, Mawj, Swingalong, Lezoo's own stablemate Juliet Sierra and Treasure Trove - all of them winners at Group level previously, with the first trio having taken the Gr.2 Debutante Stakes, Gr.2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and Gr.2 Lowther Stakes.

Lezoo was recently purchased by connections for €110,000 at the Arqana Breeze-Up Sale, having previously been bought for 77,000gns at last year’s Tattersalls October Book 3 Yearling Sale.

The win also provided Andrew Black’s Chasemore Farm with their first Gr.1 bred winner. Lezoo out of 2yo Gr.3 winner Roger Sez (by Red Clubs, a son of Red Ransom).

Congratulations to all connections!
