Another exciting weekend for Charm Spirit

As well as another winner in France, Charm Spirit was also responsible for two Stakes performances in Australasia.

The Aga Khan’s Serkiyna had been knocking on the door in France and swung it right open on Sunday when impressively winning a maiden on the all-weather at Cagnes-Sur-Mer. Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget and ridden by Christophe Soumillon, the grey filly came with a wet sail to get up cosily. Serkiyna is out of Red Ransom mare Serasana.

In New Zealand, Gr.3 and Listed winner Scorpz was runner-up in the Gr.2 Avondale Guineas at Ellerslie. The Stephen Marsh-trained Scorpz is in a rich vein of form at the moment and holds an entry in the NZ Derby back at Ellerslie on February 29. He is out of Dubawi mare Forbetterforworse.

Fascino has already won a Gr.2 for her sire and she added more Stakes form to her CV when fourth in Gr.3 Vanity Stakes at Flemington on Saturday. Giving weight to most of her rivals, Fascino was beaten less than two lengths under Mark Zahra for trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace. Fascino is out of Savabeel mare Lady Kipling.
