Charge becomes fourth Group winner for Zoustar

Australian sire sensation Zoustar gained his fourth individual Group winner from his first crop when Charge won the Gr. 3 1300 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley last Saturday.

Ridden by Hugh Bowman for trainer Chris Waller – the same combination that would combine successfully with the wonder mare Winx hours later – Charge carried the colours of Qatar Racing as he made all, overcoming a wide draw and digging deep to hold off the persistent challenge of joint-favourite Sunset Watch.

Three-year-old Charge had only won his maiden in August before finishing third in a Listed race and fifth in Gr. 2 company. Saturday was the first time he’d been partnered by Bowman in a race, but he had ridden him to win two barrier trials in July.

Zoustar stands in Australia with eight other stallions at Widden Stud, whose Marketing and Stallions Nomination Manager Ryan McEvoy said:

"He's such a cool horse. If he was a human, you’d like to have a beer with him. Nothing really bothers him. He's shuttling to Tweenhills Stud in England next season and he's the perfect horse to shuttle.

"He's got the best temperament, and you see that temperament coming out in his stock. That's why trainers have got behind them."

Zoustar won the Gr. 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes in 2013, and on Saturday as many of four of his progeny – Charge, Sunlight, Zousain and Lean Mean Machine – could contest the latest renewal. The Coolmore was also won by Zoustar’s ill-fated sire Northern Meteor.
