Charm Spirit's impress at yearling sales
Charm Spirit started with a bang when his first yearling through the ring at Arqana's August Sale sold for €500,000 to Shadwell France SNC. The cracking colt is out of Rainbow Quest mare Kartica, which makes him a half-brother to Qemah, who changed hands at the same sale in 2014 and has since gone on to win four Stakes races, including two Gr.1s.
Charm Spirit also had four other yearlings sell for six figures at the sale, including a colt and a filly from Ecurie des Monceaux, who raised Charm Spirit himself. The colt is out of Arch mare Miss Plimsoll, which makes him a half-brother to a Scat Daddy two-year-old colt Qatar Racing has in training with Mikel Delzangles. The Charm Spirit colt was bought for €120,000 by Peter and Ross Doyle, while the the filly was purchased by the MAB Agency for €130,000. She is out of Giant's Causeway mare Naissance Royale, who won multiple Stakes races between France and North America.
Charm Spirit's yearlings at Arqana sold for an average of over €192,000 - a very impressive 7.5 x his stud fee when he stood at Tweenhills for £25,000 when covering his first book of mares!
Charm Spirit was also responsible for a six-figure yearling at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale with his daughter out of Rainow Quest mare Bijou A Moi selling for £105,000 to Joe Foley, racing manager for Steve Parkin's Clipper Logistics. She is from the top-class family of Postponed and Gale Force Ten, who are both now sires. Charm Spirit's colt at the sale, out of Teofilo mare Nickels And Dimes, was bought jointly by Nick Bradley Racing and will be trained by Eve Johnson Houghton.
There are still many Charm Spirit yearlings to be sold this autumn, including a colt out of Zamindar mare Postalewho was sold for 140,000 guineas as a foal. He returns to Tattersalls for the Book 1 Sale and will attract plenty of attention, as will the colts out of Efisio mare Harryana, who is a half-brother to Gr. 2 Mill Reef Stakes winner Temple Meads bought by his current owner for 90,000 guineas as a foal, and out of Marju mare Marika, who made 80,000 guineas last year.
Also at Tattersalls, among a good selection of Charm Spirit's in Book 2, will be a colt out of Diesis mare Thankful who sold for 110,000 guineas as foal. He's a half-brother to the Listed-placed two-year-old Morning Post, from the family of Gr.1 winner Solow, Bethrah and Thistle Bird.
