First yearlings by Zoustar proving popular down under
The first yearlings by Qatar Bloodstock's Zoustar are proving popular at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.
After two days of the sale he has had 20 yearlings sell from 20 offered for an average of A$265,000 (colts A$274,000, fillies A$252,000). During the first session the highlights were the pair selling for A$400,000 each; a filly out of Karallie offered by Rosemont Stud sold to McDonald Racing , and a filly out of Mandawara from Glenlogan Park was purchased by Ciaron Maher.
On day two of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale one particularly good-looking colt from Edinglassie Stud caught the eye of Sheikh Fahad and trainer Chris Waller, and they combined resources to secure the youngster for A$400,000. Racing manager David Redvers and Waller's bloodstock agent, Guy Mulcaster, did the bidding and signed for the youngster.
The partnership were soon back in business when hunting down another son of Zoustar, this one offered by Turangga Farm, and gained with a bid of $450,000, and this was followed by a colt from Sledmere Stud, who was added to the string following an offer of $510,000.
The Edinglassie colt was foaled by Pasar Silbano, a daughter of Elnadim, and a mare well known by Redvers, who said: "I bought her as a yearling with Ger Lyons in a bid to win the Goffs' sales race, which she did. She also won the Listed Curragh Stakes. Her colt by Zoustar looks a proper two-year-old type, just like his dam."
Zoustar is owned in a partnership involving Qatar Bloodstock, plus Widden and Woodside Park Studs - the sire stands at each stud in alternate years at a stud fee of A$44,000.
Anthony Thompson of Widden Stud said: "His results this week have been remarkable but the quality of horses he's had have been good right the way through, and his yearlings have impressed all the best judges. He's been a marvellous horse right through his career, from being one of the best horses trained by Chris Waller, and now as a lovely horse to work with at home."
This son of Northern Meteor won the Gr.1 Coolmore Stakes and Gr.1 Golden Rose Stakes at three, and was also a Gr.2 winner at two.
David Redvers said: "I was very much a fan of Zoustar's sire when I first came out here. We had his first yearlings and I was really taken by their outlook and style. I also very much liked the idea of trying to find a young stallion out here. It's a strong and resilient-looking market in Australia. They've got the prize money levels and a diversity of owners, and from that point of view it looks a particularly healthy market."
Should Zoustar's first runners prove successful the prospect of him reversing shuttling to Tweenhills is very much on the cards.
