FIRST GROUP WINNER FOR HAVANA GOLD
Havana Gold enjoyed a significant double on Wednesday when Havana Grey gave his sire a first Group winner and another son, Tabdeed, made an impressive winning debut at Leicester.
Havana Grey has been an absolute star this season by winning three stakes races, namely the National Stakes and Dragon Stakes, both Listed races at Sandown, and the Gr. 3 ÂBombay Sapphire Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood on Wednesday.
His latest success was achieved in vastly different conditions to his first three wins - he also won a maiden at Ayr - as the ground at Goodwood was very testing after torrential rain hit the track. The style was very much the same for Havana Grey though, soon in front and holding off all his rivals in comfortable fashion in the end, winning by a length and three quarters from favourite Invincible Army.
Described as a "fast, genuine and talented juvenile" by Timeform, Havana Grey will now go for the Gr. 1 Prix Morny over six furlongs according to his trainer Karl Burke, who said "The owners [Global Racing Club and Mrs Elaine Burke] are very keen to go for it. At least today has told us we don't need to worry about the ground! It'll be interesting to see if he gets the six and he deserves a crack at a Group 1 now." Congratulations also go to Havana Grey's breeders Mickley Stud and Lady Lonsdale.
Tabdeed was purchased by Shadwell Estate Company for 42,000 guineas at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale, and he made a winning start carrying the famous royal blue and white colours in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes over six furlongs at Leicester. Tabdeed won going away by two and a quarter lengths from the same owner's Yafta and looks a colt with lots of potential. He is trained by Owen Burrows for owner Hamdan Al Maktoum, and was bred by Red House Stud and Ketton Ashwell Ltd. Tabdeed has been introduced into the 2000 Guineas betting at 33/1.
