First Zoustar foal

Zoustar - Coral Sea filly

13 Jan 2020

First Northern Hemisphere foal by Zoustar born

The first foal bred on a Northern Hemisphere cover by Australian sire sensation Zoustar has been born at Peter Winkworth’s Merton Place Stud in Surrey.

The filly is the first live foal out of dual-winning Excelebration mare Coral Sea – herself bred and raced by Peter out of Tropical Paradise, whom he trained himself to win two Gr.3s.

Coral Sea is a half-sister to this year’s two-year-old Tony Montana (by Frankel) who changed hands for 500,000gns at the Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale.

The foal was born at 8.10am on Thursday 9 January.

Peter said: “The birth was straightforward, and the foal was quickly up and suckling.

I’m a big fan of Zoustar and his first foal born in the UK is a cracker – well conformed, close coupled and perky. David Redvers actually bought her grandam Tropical Paradise for us as a yearling so it’s great it’s come full circle.”

There are 125 more mares carrying foals by Zoustar following his first Northern Hemisphere breeding season at Tweenhills in 2019 and he will again be extremely popular this year.

Zoustar stands for £30,000 (Oct 1st SLF) and has already had yearlings sell at Magic Millions this week for A$900,000, A$600,000, A$580,000, A$500,000 (x2), A$450,000, A$360,000 etc.
