First-season sires smashing results across the globe

A filly by Zoustar became the first yearling by a first-season sire to sell for seven figures in Australia in 2017 when changing hands for $1 million (over £600,000) at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale on Wednesday 5th April.

The bay is a three-quarter sister to the full brothers (by Northern Meteor) Shooting To Win, winner of the Caulfield Guineas, and Deep Field, who was reportedly Australia's busiest sire in 2015.

She was sold by Edinglassie Stud and bought by New Zealand-based agent Bruce Perry on behalf of prominent New Zealand owner and breeder Lib Petagna. Perry is obviously a big fan of the family as he had purchased the filly's listed-winning dam Listen Here for a Magic Millions Broodmare Sale record price of $3.4 million on behalf of the China Horse Club last year.

The Tattersalls Ireland Ascot Two-Year-Old Breeze-up Sale also took place on Wednesday, and progeny by Tweenhills stallions Harbour Watch and Havana Gold were on offer.

A striking chesnut filly by Havana Gold out of the Shadwell-bred Gr.1 placed mare Esloob caught the attention of plenty of clock-watchers when breezing on Tuesday, and indeed was the fastest breezer by a first season sire of the sale (click here to see her impressive breeze). From the family of Gr.1 Yorkshire Oaks winner Roseate Tern, she proved popular in the sales ring too selling to the Cool Silk Partnership/Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for £64,000, which was a great profit for Robson Aguiar who had purchased her for just €4,000 at Fairyhouse last year.
