French Stakes win for Kameko’s American Gal
Kameko’s daughter American Gal – unbeaten as a 2yo in 2024 – took her form to the next level when winning the Listed Prix des Lilas over 1m at Chantilly on Tuesday. This continued a fantastic few days for Kameko as his daughter Tsuki made a winning debut on Saturday and son Lightening Mann won on the 1000 Guineas card on Sunday.
American Gal was twice a comfortable winner as a juvenile and returned with a very creditable 3rd in a conditions race at Kempton in March, trying to give weight to the pair that beat her.
Amazingly, she made her turf debut a winning one in Stakes company when leading from pillar to post in France under a masterful Christophe Soumillon ride. It was also an excellent piece of placement from trainer Ed Walker, and American Gal will be a superb addition to the broodmare band of owner Dr. Bridget Drew’s Mildmay Racing when the time comes.
Before then, however, there are bigger targets ahead for American Gal who will surely go into Group company. Her excellent attitude will continue to stand her in good stead.
American Gal was born, raised and grazed at Tweenhills, bred by The Granny Franny Partnership – our congratulations go to them and, of course, to Mildmay Racing who paid only 25,000gns for her at the Tattersalls Book 3 Yearling Sale!
Tsuki was also offered at the same Book 3 and even cheaper, in theory – she was a vendor buy-back at 22,000gns by Paul and Sally Flatt’s Childwickbury Stud – but looked a filly to follow when winning at Goodwood for William Haggas and Adam Farragher.
Lightening Mann gave Kameko a winner on 1000 Guineas day when digging deep to win a 10f handicap for Jack Channon and Rossa Ryan.
Lightening Mann was bred by Dalwhinnie Bloodstock and cost his owners Opulence Thoroughbreds & Mr Garry Gilroy just 40,000gns at the Tattersalls October Book 2 Sale.
Kameko really does offer outstanding value!
