Havana Gold crowned leading UK-based sire of 2yos in 2021

Tweenhills stallion Havana Gold was the leading UK-based sire of two-year-olds in Europe in 2021 after producing 32 individual winners, including Stakes scorers Chipotle and Fearby.

Havana Gold, the Gr.1 winner who produced Gr.1 winner and sire Havana Grey from his first crop, had a stellar 2021 when he was the sire of 70 individual winners in Europe, which was more than the likes of Night of Thunder, Shamardal, Territories and Havana Gold’s own sire Teofilo.

The star of Havana Gold’s juvenile crop – born in 2019 – was Chipotle whose four wins include the Brocklesby Stakes (the first two-year-old race of the year), the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot and, when stepped up to six furlongs, the Listed Two Year Old Trophy at Redcar.

Chipotle had been bought for just 10,000gns as a yearling and was sold for 210,000gns in October to continue his racing career in Saudi Arabia.

Fearby also represented excellent value for a Stakes winner as the five-length Listed Dragon Stakes winner had been picked up for 21,000gns as a yearling (and was a 13,000gns foal).

Other promising Havana Golds 2022 three-year-olds to look out for include winners El Caballo (£30,000 yearling), Cuban Beat (Tweenhills homebred) and Poppy Bouchet (8,000gns yearling).

Another Havana Gold to note is Godolphin’s Golden Syrup who was bred at Tweenhills and won four of his six races as a three-year-old in Japan in 2021.

In terms of individual juvenile winners in Europe in 2021, Havana Gold was only behind Kodiac, Mehmas, Dark Angel and Cotai Glory, all of whom stand in Ireland, the first three for fees of €65,000, €50,000 and €60,000 respectively.

Havana Gold finished directly ahead of Dubawi (£250,000) and Showcasing (£45,000) from those who stand in Britain.

Havana Gold is clearly an absolute bargain at £12,500 (1st Oct SLF) for the 2022 breeding season so contact us to book your mare in while you can!
