Homebred Hawksbill winner #9 for Kameko

Striking chesnut colt Hakwsbill gave Kameko his ninth individual winner when overcoming trouble in running to score at Haydock on Friday. He is part-owned by our own David Redvers and Hannah Wall.

Hawksbill had shown lots of ability when in the frame on his first two starts and appreciated the step up to 1m when beating three rivals at Haydock, justifying odds-on favouritism.

In the hands of Oisin Murphy for the first time, Hawksbill was briefly stuck in a pocket at the top of the straight but was brave to go through a gap up the rail and win by a cosy ¾ length from well-bred newcomer Danger Bay.

Kameko has now had more individual winners than fellow first-season sires Earthlight, Far Above, Hello Youmzain, Mohaather, Romanised, Without Parole etc.

Hawksbill is trained by Hugo Palmer, who has always held the colt in high regard. He could now run in the Listed Ascendant Stakes over the same C&D on Saturday September 7.

Hawksbill is owned by Palmer, Dulverton, Redvers, Wall & Ford and is the first runner out of the winning Frankel mare Like. Hawksbill changed hands for 92,000gns as a foal and 85,000gns as a yearling.
