Kameko
Leading sire Kameko sold to British breeders
The fastest ever 2000 Guineas winner turned Gr.1-winning sire Kameko has been bought from Qatar Bloodstock Ltd by a syndicate of leading British breeders. He will remain at Tweenhills in Gloucestershire, where he has stood all his stallion career.
A syndicate of British breeders have moved to purchase Kameko to safeguard his future in the British breeding industry. The joint-leading third-crop sire by Group winners will continue to stand alongside King of Change and Lightning Spear at Tweenhills and his fee for 2027 will be announced in the coming weeks.
The group which has acquired Kameko have already enjoyed significant success with the Classic-winning Gr.1 producer. The deal was brokered by Tweenhills’ David Redvers and Billy Jackson-Stops of JS Bloodstock.
Redvers said: “We are thrilled a superb group of British breeders have joined forces to secure Kameko to enable him to remain with us in Britain.
“He was a record-breaking Gr.1 two-year-old and Classic winner and continues to give British and Irish breeders the opportunity to utilise a proven stallion at a commercially attractive price.
“His stock are very durable and his niche at stud appears to be 8f-10f, which is the sweet spot for owners and breeders with huge international appeal.
“With five Stakes winners so far this season, Kameko is deservedly earning a reputation for producing tough racehorses with the class to compete at the top level, both domestically and internationally.”
Kameko has enjoyed a fantastic 2026, with 4 Stakes winners in just 11 days in August, including his son Wimbledon Hawkeye. Wimbledon Hawkeye was also beaten a nose in the Gr.1 Irish Champion Stakes – ahead of five Gr.1 winners – and won the Gr.2 Prix Dollar on Saturday, which took his career earnings to over £1.5m.
Kameko is also the sire of Gr.1 winner New Century, 2026 Group winners Defiantly (current favourite for the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup), Generic (at Royal Ascot) and War Socks, 2026 Listed winner Mirik and American Gal.
Kameko has stood six busy seasons at Tweenhills since his classic-winning year in 2020. His son set a record price for a colt at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale (Book 2) when selling from Tweenhills for 1,000,000gns. His progeny have also sold for 390,000gns, €310,000, 250,000gns, €250,000, 210,000gns, 200,000gns etc despite Kameko never having stood for more than £25,000 (Oct 1st SLF) at Tweenhills.
Kameko’s current foals are from his biggest and best book of mares.
