Impressive filly leads home Zoustar 1-2 in trial
Unraced 2yo Zoustar filly Starlight Girl looked a bit special when coming home 3 lengths clear in a 735m fillies’ barrier trial at Royal Randwick on Tuesday. Best of the rest was another filly by Zoustar in Zouphoria.
Starlight Girl lined up against 6 rivals and soon led under Rachel King. She didn’t need to be asked any questions to maintain a clear advantage to the line. She’s trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, as is runner-up Zouphoria.
Starlight Girl is owned by a syndicate and was an AU$180,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale purchase by PR Funds.
Starlight Girl is out of a mare by Snitzel, whose sire Redoute’s Choice is also the sire of Zoustar’s dam Zouzou. Redoute’s Choice is by Danehill.
Zouphoria also has Danehill on the female side of her pedigree as her dam Vezalay (by Shamardal) is out of a mare by Flying Spur, another son of Danehill.
As anyone who has followed Zoustar closely knows, he’s had lots of success when mated with mares who have Danehill in their pedigree.
That cross has produced Gr.1 winners Zougotcha (out of a mare by Fastnet Rock), dual Gr.3 winner The Astrologist (out of a mare by Flying Spur), Gr.2 winner North Star Lass and Gr.1-placed Zou Tiger (both out of mares by Snitzel) etc.
