Kameko off to a flying start at stud
With his first 2yo runners this year, Classic winning miler Kameko has got off to an exciting start with 10 winners from just 33 runners.
However the quality of these runners is what is most impressive, speaking on the Nick Luck Daily Podcast last week Dan Barber from Timeform highlighted that if you snapshot the top 5 runners of each of the first season sire’s this season then it is Kameko whose top 5 have the highest mean Timeform rating- an impressive 96.
“It doesn’t happen by accident that there is a correlation between the quality of the racehorse and the quality of their offspring – it’s no surprise, therefore, that Kameko is currently leading the way.”
If you looked at his individual runners, it’s Kameko who comes out on top. His son Wimbledon Hawkeye was his sire’s first winner and has since been Stakes placed on both other starts to date, including an eye-catching second in the Acomb Stakes, Gr.3 at York. Wimbledon Hawkeye is the highest-rated 2yo by a first season sire in Britian and Ireland at the moment. Other high-class runners by Kameko include New Century who was an impressive winner of the Stonehenge Stakes, Listed, Rajeko who was 4th in the July Stakes, Gr.2 and Hawksbill who was 4th in the Ascendant Stakes, Listed at Haydock on Saturday.
Kameko himself didn’t make his debut until 25th July of his 2yo year and although he was the winner of the Futurity Stakes, Gr.1 in November of his 2yo year it was as a 3yo where he excelled. A winner of the QIPCO 2000 Guineas, Gr.1 in the fastest time in history and reaching a peak RPR of 125 in September of his 3yo campaign. Therefore we will be watching with great excitement to see how his first crops progresses next season.
