Kameko's Derby Double

Tweenhills resident stallion Kameko has enjoyed a frutiful couple of weeks, which was topped by Wimbledon Hawkeye winning the $3.5 million Nashville Derby and War Socks winning the Norsk Derby.

Wimbledon Hawkeye was bred and owned by The Gredley Family's Stetchworth and Middle Park Stud. Trained by James Owen, he enjoyed a stellar 2yo season which cumulated in success in the Royal Lodge Stakes, Gr.2 at Newmarket. He also had placed efforts in the Superlative Stakes, Gr.2 and Acomb Stakes, Gr.3. As a 3yo he has danced every dance with placed efforts in the Craven Stakes, Gr.3, Dante Stakes, Gr.2, Princess Of Wales Stakes, Gr.2 and Gordon Stakes, Gr.3; before traveling to America for the $3.5 million Nashville Derby, Gr.3.

Ridden by Frankie Dettori, he settled midfield before showing a blistering turn of foot to pull two lengths clear and ran on gamely to beat Gr.1 winners Burnham Square, Test Score and Sandman. A tilt at the Breeders' Cup Turf now looks on the cards for him.

A similarly tough and consistent son of Kameko, War Socks was bred by Byerley Stud and sold for just 11,000gns as a foal before being re-offered as a yearling at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale and selling for 115,000 to Edgar Byrne.

Since then he has travelled around the world, winning in Norway before a stint in Meydan for the winter where he finished 3rd in UAE 2000 Guineas, Listed before running at both Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood. Most recently he returned to Norway where he was a runaway winner of the Norsk Derby.

Both colts are fantastic adverts for their sire and congratulations to all connections!
