King destined for better things

King of Change’s son River King ran to a Timeform Rating of 110 in victory at Doncaster last Saturday and looks a contender for the Lincoln back over the same course and distance next spring.

River King landed his third win last weekend and looks destined for top handicaps or Stakes races. He scored off a mark of 94, pulling clear of Shipbourne, who sold for 140,000gns on Wednesday.

River King had returned off a 10 lb lower mark in May and has been rapidly progressive since, winning impressively off 87 at Newbury and now officially rated 99 after his latest win.

He’s trained by Richard Hannon for owners Grande Motte and has been ridden in 9 of his 11 starts by Sean Levey.

River King was bred by Forenaghts Stud & Jim Bolger out of Indian Ridge mare Precipitous. He was a bargain when picked up for €35,000 as a yearling by Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock.

Regarding King of Change, as Martin Stevens wrote in a recent Good Morning Bloodstock, "King Of Change received 111 mares in his new home of Tweenhills this year, and really should find himself in strong demand once again next breeding season."
