Lady Karina wins at Warwick
Two daughters of Lady Rebecca, the legendary three-time Gr. 1 Cleeve Hurdle winner bought by David Redvers for just 400 guineas as a yearling, have won over hurdles in the last five days.
The exploits of Lady Rebecca helped put Tweenhills on the map, and her daughters Lady Karina (pictured as a foal) and Mary Eleanor - who were both born and raised at Tweenhills - are continuing her legacy.
Memories came flooding back on Wednesday November 22 when the brown, green and yellow colours of the Kinnersley Optimists made famous by Lady Rebecca were successfully carried by her six-year-old daughter by Kayf Tara, Lady Karina.
Lady Karina stayed out stoutly to win the Biggest Jumps Season On Racing UK Handicap Hurdle at Warwick and, given she'd also won a similar race when last seen in January, she will hold good claims of completing the hat-trick, especially if stepped up to three miles. Lady Karina also shares her trainer, Venetia Williams, with her illustrious dam.
Last Friday, Lady Rebecca's final foal before her passing aged 21 in 2012, Mary Eleanor, also showed the fantastic attitude that has become synonymous with the family when landing the Driver Hire Darlington Mares' Maiden Hurdle at Newcastle on her jumping debut.
The five-year-old daughter of Midnight Legend is trained by Tom Lacey and carries the grey, red and green silks of Mrs Mary Redvers who, along with her son David, was a part-owner of Lady Rebecca.
