MORE WINNERS FOR HAVANA GOLD
September has already seen two new winners for Havana Gold in the shape of Rum Runner and Ghepardo, taking the sire's tally to 16 individual winners.
Rum Runner improved again when beating a big field in the first division of the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs at Sandown last Friday, showing a fantastic attitude to hold off plenty of promising rivals in the closing stages.
Rum Runner's time was faster than the second division won by the same connections' - trainer Richard Hannon and owner Mr Michael Geoghegan - Bathsheba Bay, who had gone into the race with an official rating of 87.
Rum Runner should have even more to offer when stepped up to a mile, too, as amongst his winning siblings is the mile-and-a-half Gr. 3 winner Unsung Heroine. Rum Runner was bred by Biddestone Stud out of Tenby mare Thermopylae and was bought as a yearling by Peter and Ross Doyle for €50,000 at Tattersalls Ireland's September Sale.
Havana Gold's sweet 16 was achieved when Rum Runner's stablemate Ghepardo made all in the Hertz Brighton Maiden Auction Stakes at Brighton on Sunday.
It was the first time Ghepardo had made the running and perhaps her connections - including owners Miss I. Keogh and Partner - were inspired by what other offspring of Havana Gold such as his Stakes winners Havana Grey and Treasuring have done from the front.
Ghepardo was actually bred jointly by Tweenhills' own David Redvers and Gary Middlebrook out of Royal Applause mare Clincher. Ghepardo was also purchased at Tattersalls Ireland's September Yearling Sale, knocked down to Keogh/Doyle for €20,000.
