New Century and Hawksbill sell at Tattersalls
There were several horses by Kameko to sell for good money at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale this week, headed by Canadian Gr.1 winner New Century who fetched 390,000gns and will now continue his career in Dubai.
New Century had won the Gr.1 Summer Stakes and Listed Stonehenge Stakes as a 2yo year in the UK and transferred to the US where he was also 3rd in the Gr.1 American Turf Stakes. He’d also been 4th from a wide draw in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
He returned to Britain to sell at Tattersalls in Newmarket on Tuesday and changed hands for 390,000gns. He was signed for by Blandford Bloodstock and will reportedly now continue his career in Dubai, where his half-brother Passion And Glory has spent the last five winters.
Hawksbill raced for a partnership that included our own David Redvers and Hannah Wall and sold on Wednesday for 175,000gns. The 97-rated miler also looks likely to ply his trade in Dubai next as he was purchased for that project by owner Phil Cunningham with Sam Haggas’ Hurworth Bloodstock.
Spell Master is another horse we know we at Tweenhills as, like New Century, he was born, raised and grazed on the farm. Tweenhills sold him for 145,000gns as a foal, he re-sold for 160,000gns as a Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling and changed hands again for 150,000gns on Wednesday.
The 89-rated son of Kameko was picked up by new trainer Oliver Rix with Lillingston Bloodstock. Rix has spent time working for Spell Master’s trainer Andrew Balding, Hughie Morrison, Chris Waller and, more recently, Roger Varian and we wish him well with his new acquisition.
Hit Squad has finished runner-up at Kempton both starts, inc. behind the Gr.1 placed Cosmic Year on debut, and he was bought for 70,000gns by Matt Houldsworth with Australian trainer Mick Price. We hope he flies the Kameko flag high in his new country.
Falmouth Lad also made 70,000gns when selling to HH Shaikh Nooh Mohamed Salman Hamad Alkhalifa. He arrived at the sale having won handicaps on his last three starts for Kameko’s trainer Andrew Balding (also trained Spell Master and New Century until earlier in the year).
This year’s winning 2yo Kamakameleon, who was 2¼ lengths 5th in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot, also sold at the sale, making 46,000gns so a profit on the £30,000 he’d cost as a yearling.
