New Stakes winner for Kameko at Royal Ascot

Tweenhills enjoyed a fine Royal Ascot 2026 courtesy of a new Stakes winner for Kameko, a Tweenhills-bred winner in Daiquiri Bay, some near misses and a new purchase who ran a stormer on her first start for US owners…

Kameko gelding Generic hadn’t even run just over 3 months ago yet ran to Timeform 111 in winning the Gr.3 Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot for owner Jeff Smith, trainer Andrew Balding and jockey James Doyle

Generic was always in a good position just behind the leaders and showed a fantastic attitude to win by a length from favourite Endorsement.

Balding said: “I thought James gave him a peach of a ride and was always confident that, when he peeled out, he was going to find something.

“I'm really delighted for Jeff and thrilled as he's by Kameko who is so under-rated. This horse is very much like his dad.

“I remember I was at St Mary's [Southampton Football Club] the day he won at Yarmouth, watching it on a little phone, thinking we probably had a decent horse, and it looks the case now.”

Doyle added: “This fellow is super, expertly trained by Andrew and his team.”

Generic was bred by our own David Redvers with Peter Molony and Henry de Bromhead, out of winning Makfi mare Adalene.

Kameko also sired two runners-up on the opening day of Royal Ascot as Wimbledon Hawkeye was beaten ½ length in the Listed Wolferton Stakes and Defiantly was beaten a head in the Ascot Stakes

Kameko also had the runner-up in the Gr.1 The Zavaray S. Poonawalla Colts Championship Stakes at the Bangalore Turf Club over the weekend courtesy of Stud Poker

Daiquiri Bay was born, raised and grazed at Tweenhills before we sold him as a foal for 100,000gns. He had already reached a BHA rating of 100 by the time he lined up for the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot and came with a strong run to win from fellow progressive 4yo Gamrai.

Frankel filly Believed was born in Ireland but raised at Tweenhills. She had won her last start before Royal Ascot by 8½ lengths and continued her improvement into the King George V Stakes, beaten just over ½ length for Qatar Racing and Johnny Murtagh

Another horse to mention is Green Sense, who was knocked down to Britanny Linton (chief executive of fledgling US racing operation Boyd Racing) and David Redvers for £700,000 at the London Sale and ran a cracker to finish 4th in the Gr.3 Jersey Stakes just five days later.

Green Sense sported the orange and grey colours of Randy and Jenny Boyd’s Boyd Racing and outran odds of 80/1 to finish in the frame under James McDonald, unlucky not to finish closer too. Joseph O’Brien enjoyed a stellar Royal Ascot with five winners and was naturally delighted with Green Sense’s performance.

As a Gr.2 winner and Gr.1-placed, Green Sense will be a superb addition to Boyd Racing’s US stable in the near future and we wish them the very best of luck.
