Octave Hits Right Note on Return

Tweenhills homebred Count Octave made a winning return in the FCL Global Forwarding Novice Stakes at Wolverhampton on Tuesday night.

Bred by Qatar Bloodstock Limited and born and raised at Tweenhills, Count Octave had finished runner-up in the Gr. 2 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot last season and also sixth in the Gr. 1 St Leger at Doncaster.

Count Octave wasn't near that form on this return but he didn't need to be, and he's a very laid-back colt - he spent his winter holiday back at Tweenhills, so we know him well - who was always going to be rusty on his reappearance.

He should improve plenty for blowing the cobwebs away and a return to better company beckons, with the Gr. 1 Yorkshire Cup back over a mile and three quarters on May 18 an option.

Count Octave is trained by Andrew Balding and was ridden by Oisin Murphy, who was typically strong in the saddle.

By Frankel out of Mark of Esteem mare Honorine, Count Octave is closely related to Gr. 1 Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach. Other siblings are the Listed winners Elidor and Honor Bound.
