Salisbury Double for Charm Spirit

First-season sire Charm Spirit registered a double this afternoon with wins from Forseti and Oberyn Martell, both at Salisbury.

Forseti had shaped well when fourth in a big-field Newbury maiden on his debut and he improved for the step up to seven furlongs when making all in the nine-runner Whitsbury Manor Stud British EBF Blagrave Maiden Stakes, showing a good attitude. Forseti became Charm Spirit's fifth individual winner.

Forseti was bred by Deerfield Farm out of Raven's Pass mare Ravensburg. Ravensburg ran twice over a mile and is a half-sister to Gr. 2 King Edward VII Stakes winner High Accolade. Forseti was bought for owners Mick and Janice Mariscotti by his trainer Andrew Balding for 60,000 guineas at Tattersalls' October Yearling Sale (Book 2).

Oberyn Martell - named after a character from Game of Thrones - had already won at Sandown, and he followed up in similarly impressive fashion in the New Forest Farm Machinery/John Deere Auction Stakes, stepped up to six furlongs and also making all.

Oberyn Martell was bred by Paramount Bloodstock out of Teofilo mare Nickels And Dimes, a winner over nine and a half furlongs. He was bought by Highflyer Bloodstock/Nick Bradley for just £28,000 and is owned by Nick Bradley Racing 32 and Sohi and Partner. Well done to all connections.
