Sir Les wins again on road to Classic
Exciting 3yo colt Sir Les Patterson continued Zoustar’s excellent run as a stallion when winning a novice under a penalty at Kempton on Wednesday evening and could now head to the Gr.2 German 2000 Guineas on May 20.
Sir Les Patterson – named after Barry Humphries’s fictional Australian cultural attaché to the Far East – had improved from his debut at Kempton when winning at Southwell and he followed up cosily returned to the former track.
With Billy Loughnane deputising for Oisin Murphy, Sir Les Patterson was perfectly positioned just behind the leaders and again showed an excellent attitude to win by a neck from promising newcomer Smart Hero.
Sir Les Patterson has been expertly trained by Harry Eustace, who had already earmarked the Gr.2 German 2000 Guineas as a potential target.
The rangy Sir Les Patterson was born, raised and grazed at Tweenhills – out of Listed-winning Dutch Art mare Evil Spell – and is owned by our David Redvers in partnership with Suman Hedge Bloodstock and Woodside Bloodstock.
Sir Les was the third Tweenhills-bred winner in three days as the combination of the late Havana Gold and Canford Cliffs mare Jalela produced both 4yo Bishop’s Crown, who won a 0-85 handicap on Monday, and 3yo Our Havana, who won a 0-80 handicap at Newmarket on Tuesday.
